Westside Montessori School (WMS) offers a
year round program and
enrollment. The school year begins mid-August and ends in May. A
summer program is available during the months of June and July. As
of August 1st there are spaces in the
Toddler and
Elementary Classes. These
spaces fill quickly; most classes were full during the 2005-2006 school
year. Currently the Primary
Classes are full, but the waiting list is short.
Enrollment at WMS reflects the dynamics of West Houston, so as students
advance, and families move to new jobs or foreign assignments, positions
become available. Please don't hesitate to put your child's name on the
waiting list. Returning students
Preference is given to currently enrolled
students.
2007-2008 Registration
forms can be found on our WMS Forms page.
Supply/Activity Fee
First Child - $250
or Family Discount (2 or more children) $350 is
due August 1st. of each school year, and is
prorated during the year. (If
paid in full prior to July 15th, the fee is reduced to $225 (for one
child) or $325 (2 or more children).
New Students
Please contact us by phone or e-mail
with any questions about the School, our
Programs,
Enrollment Procedure
or specific questions concerning your child or circumstances. We
welcome your questions because we know that choosing the right school
for your child is important to you.
Visit Us
Westside Montessori School’s
faculty encourages interested parents to visit the school. During
the hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or at other times by appointment, a member of the staff can show parents through the school and answer specific questions.
We ask that visitors be flexible in their requests for tours, as our
first priority is always the care and comfort of our students.
To ensure that someone will be available,
please call the school in advance to make an appointment for classroom
observations and school tours.
The school also holds "Open House" events
during the year. Please contact the
school office to request notification and an invitation to the next
event.
. . . or talk with us before you relocate to
Houston
Many of our Westside families move to the area
from other parts of the United States or other countries. Distance
and the need to make remote decisions about schools can be stressful -
our staff is happy to provide parents with as much information as
possible to help make a decision that is right for your family.
The staff are experienced in working with families
following corporate relocations and with children who have been speaking
other languages. We are proud of our cultural diversity and
encourage children to share their different experiences with their
classmates.

The success of Westside Montessori depends upon
parental involvement. WMS has experienced continuous growth and support
through fundraising, social events and daily enrichment programs with
the children. The goal of establishing WMS was to create a parent
cooperative affiliated with the
American Montessori
Society (AMS).
The rewards of parent
involvement have been essential to WMS community life. Volunteer
programs contribute to all aspects of the school and are based on a wide
range support from parents based on their own skills and available
time.

Contributions include listening to the children reading in the
classroom, participating on the board, providing nutritious snacks and
treats at holiday parties or by helping with equipment upkeep and
seasonal gardening. Parents lead the
fundraising activities, family picnics and social events throughout
the year. A full listing of all activities and programs are available
from the office and are updated regularly on the
WMS Parents' page.
For specific details on Committees and
Activities for current WMS parents, please see the
WMS Parents page.

Snacks
Nutritious morning and afternoon snacks
are provided by parents on a rotating basis.
Parents are notified through the monthly newsletter and weekly by the
teachers. Snack guidelines, procedures and sample menus are listed
in the Parent Handbook.
Lunch
Catered hot lunches are
available five days per week during the school year at an additional
cost. Ken O'Dan caters for the WMS. Cost varies per month based on the
number of school days in the month and the portion size. Teachers help
children to eat catered or nutritious home-packed lunches in a
home-style environment.
Uniforms are standard attire
throughout the year for all primary and elementary students. Free dress
is permitted during the summer months. Uniforms can be purchased
through Parker
School Uniforms
or Land's End
(find more
information about uniforms here). Spirit Day is
every Friday. On Fridays, the children can wear their WMS Spirit
T-shirt given to them at the beginning of each academic year.
A gently used uniform sale is
held at the school every Spring and Fall.
