Celebrating 30 Years of Educating Young Children

1977 - 2007

Dear Parents, 

On behalf of the entire school, we welcome you to our website.

 This year marks two exciting events for Westside Montessori School.  First, WMS is celebrating its’ 30^th birthday and secondly, we are beginning the accreditation process to become an authentic American Montessori School (AMS).

WMS started with humble beginnings in Town and Country Village off of Memorial Drive in September 1977. Our journey began with one small primary classroom of 25 students and continues to grow today with 3 toddler classes, 4 primary classes, one lower elementary with plans underway to develop an Upper Elementary program at our present location. This milestone is worthy of a year long celebration. Birthday cake and a balloon launch with the students will begin the festivities. One of the ways we will celebrate our school’s 30^th birthday is by acknowledging our school’s diverse population with monthly cultural events. Once a month parents will be invited to present their native country, costumes and culture to our student body.  By years end we will have enriched the students to over 21 countries represented in our student population. Our annual Festival of Nations Picnic held in October will be an added plus. What a wonderful way to celebrate our Westside families!

 Currently, Westside Montessori School is an AMS affiliate school. It is with great enthusiasm, that we continue our dedication to the Montessori education of young children, by distinguishing ourselves as an accredited AMS school. This year we will begin a self study process of improvement and discernment which will involve all aspects of our school; the staff, parents, environment and community. Why should we become an accredited school? While we have and maintain high standards, we want to actively seek to obtain higher standards, to have the best practices in teaching, to work as a community for the better good for everyone involved in our school, and to distinguish ourselves as one of only three currently AMS accredited school in the Houston area. Our aim is to provide the highest standards among a professional staff striving to create an educational atmosphere that develops a life long love of learning for our students.

 With these events in mind, we extend a warm welcome to our new and returning students and families, plus inquiring families. Please feel free to contact the school or view our 2007-2008 Scholastic calendar for more information about our active and engaging school year.
